Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan (Mid-Book Review)

I mean, the book isn’t as terrible as it was, but it’s still really bad. Our class has continued to read “Surviving the Applewhites” and it is still boring. Yes, we have learned to understand all of the characters better, but almost everyone in the class in falling asleep. To sum up how boring this book is, the most exciting part so far was when they found a dead butterfly. I wish we could stop reading it, but apparently we have to read it until the very end. I honestly cannot understand why this earned a Newberry Honor Book award. There is no action, mystery, or comedy. Just a girl with cereal and butterfly problems, a weird kid who had a mishap with burning down the school but found a new love of singing and acting, and a dog just being a dog.

Surviving the Applewhites by Stephanie S. Tolan

Honestly, I’m not looking forward to this book. I have no interest in it, and it has no action or no interesting questions. I really enjoy mystery and books with patients with illnesses and how they conquer these challenges. It’s a boring concept and I have absolutely no interest in the Applewhites or any part of this book. The author of this book needs to go the Creative Academy to find a more interesting concept for books. The chapter we just read is about a girl self reflecting while eating cereal. I was so tempted to fall asleep! By now, I would have quit reading because it is not my type of book, or my type of author.
